December, 2011: Trip to Organ Mountains, White Sands National Monument, Guadalupe Peak, Carlsbad Caverns and McDonald Observatory.

The snow soaked in some of the water and then froze. Then some more snow piled on, then some more sand got on top. So it was like a layered cake.

The snow itself looked weird - it was more like little shards of very thing ice.

We walked around for a while and soaked in the sunrise.

So all of this sand is not actually malleable - it's hard as a rock.

And then it began to sparkle all kinds of different colors.

These interlocking shapes of frozen sand and sandy snow were very mesmerizing.

Everything is bigger near Texas.

Some strange plant that we found on our way out.
