December, 2011: Trip to Organ Mountains, White Sands National Monument, Guadalupe Peak, Carlsbad Caverns and McDonald Observatory.

There are so many different formations there. We took the path down to the Big Room and it was supposed to take 1 hour, but we took 3 hours.

Maybe my obsessive picture-taking didn't help.

Giant rocks in a giant cave surrounded by tiny people.

The echo is also impressive, and we had to whisper most of the time, because even a tiny sound carried for a while.

Hall of the Giants. It's hard to show how big these things are on a photograph.

Just imagine exploring this with just candles and a rope.

Some of the upper parts of the Big Room are not explored using helium balloons. They even found a few caves that way.

Because of tourism there is more mold now, but the cave is managing OK.
